Maitri is a free, confidential, nonprofit organization based in San Francisco, Bay Area empowering South Asian survivors of family violence, cultural alienation, human trafficking and elder abuse. The gala was attended by dignitaries and leaders.
Maitri celebrated 27 years of empowering South Asian community members suffering from familial violence, human trafficking and many such reasons. The occasion was graced by Silicon Valley CEOs, VCs, community leaders, entrepreneurs, and community members who generously donated over $650,000.
Sonya Pelia, President, Maitri shared that she felt so energized and inspired by working with a determined group of people. The community members appreciated the organizers for creating awareness on domestic violence and supporting South Asian community. Funds raised will be used in strengthening Maitri’s
a comprehensive suite of services and programs ranging from a helpline, a transitional house outreach and prevention, a nonprofit boutique, legal advocacy, mental health and economic empowerment program.
Ash Kalra, Assembly Member appreciated Maitri’s efforts in supporting the lives of many women. Also, during the evening Maitri was recognized by Santa Clara County supervisor and commended by Assembly Member Ash Kalra for the agency’s transformative work and empowering survivors of domestic violence and abuse.
