Ekal Chicago Chapter organized fundraising for Ekal Vidyalaya, which is a nonprofit organization involved in education and village development in rural areas and tribal villages in India. The individual schools known as Ekal Vidyalaya have local teachers who can teach in the regional language in various interesting ways using different modes of storytelling, folk drama, and folk songs.
Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation is actively involved in fundraising activities in the United States. The foundation’s mission is to open one lakh schools and eradicate illiteracy from rural and tribal India. With the participation of numerous trusts and nonprofit organizations, this movement has become one of the largest grass root level nongovernmental educational and development movement that operates in the remote villages of India.
Volunteers expressed their delight to be associated with the cause. Community hopes that more such events are organized to cater to the cause.
