Irada, produced by NJ-based Falguni Chintu Patel of Irada Entertainment, has won two awards at the prestigious 65th National Film Awards ceremony on May 3 in New Delhi.
A film about environmental preservation in India, Irada received the awards in “Best Film on Environment” and “Best Supporting Actress” for Divya Dutta. The awards were announced by the Government of India on April 13.
Set in Bhatinda, Punjab, the film is based on a true story about illnesses and deaths of residents from the pollution of the city's water source by thermal power plants. The film stars Naseeruddin Shah, Arshad Warsi, Divya Dutta, Sharad Kelkar, Sagarika Ghatge in the lead roles.
Irada Entertainment is the brainchild of Falguni Patel, who also runs Irada Foundation, with her husband Chintu Patel, co-CEO and co-chairman of NJ-based Amneal Pharmaceuticals, a leading generic drugs firm in the US. The foundation is designed to serve as a charitable-giving vehicle for the Patel family in the healthcare and education sectors.
