Hanukkah Celebration In Texas

The Indo-American Community of Huston along with Israeli Jewish community attended the Hanukkah festival celebration at the house of Indian Consulate General, in Huston, Texas. Many eminent personalities were actively part of the function. The Chief Guest was Judge, Ed Emmett.

A representative from American Jewish Community (AJC) explained the significance of the festive and how it is conducted to the guests.  Later, Dr. Anupam Ray, Consul General of India, Texas, spoke about the festival and Israel and how it is similar in culture and belief to India with huge thousands of year old heritage. His wife, Dr. Amit Goldberg is of Israeli descent, and the family celebrates the Jewish festivals regularly.

Hanukkah is an Israeli festival. It is also called the festival of lights. It is celebrated for the rededication of the Holy Temple. It happens over a period of eight-day where each day the menorah is lighted with a candle, followed by prayers and food. The Indian and Jewish delicacies made by the Consulate staff ended the lovely evening.
