The Consulate General of India, New York in collaboration with Indian Jewish Congregation of the USA along with Global Jewish Advocacy and American Jewish Community celebrated the Hanukkah festival recently in the Consulate. Many eminent personalities of the Indian, American and Jewish community actively participated in the event to make it a grand success.
Rabbi Romiel Daniel, President, Indian Jewish Congregation of USA, explained the significance of the festive and how it is done to the guests. Later, Sandeep Chakravorty, Consul General of India in New York, spoke about the festival and how it is similar in culture with Diwali. He further added that it was an honor to host the event on the occasion of the celebration of twenty-years of diplomatic ties with Israel.
Hanukkah is an Israeli festival. It is also called the festival of lights. It is celebrated for the rededication of the Holy Temple. It happens over a period of eight days where each day the menorah is lighted with a candle, followed by prayers and food. The Indian delicacies made by the Consulate staff ended the lovely evening.
