Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who on June 14 started his United States visit after visiting Canada, met investors and CEOs in New York, Washington, DC and San Francisco. In New York, he had a meeting with Bloomberg CEO Mike Bloomberg. Sandeep Chakravorty, India’s Consul General, welcomed Chief Minister Fadnavis in New York.
During his visit to the US, Fadnavis also attended a program titled “Mumbai meets Manhattan” hosted by the Consulate General of India, New York and the Friends of Maharashtra in New York, at the Marriott Marquis in Manhattan. Fadnavis interacted with the audience in Marathi where 500 prominent Maharashtrians and other members of the community attended the event.
The Bloomberg Group had inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on road mishaps in February 2015. As a result of this MoU, measures were taken to curb the road accidents in Mumbai. It has resulted not only in curbing road accidents but has also achieved a lesser number of deaths in such accidents in Mumbai.
During his interaction with the audience at the community event in Manhattan, Fadnavis told them that Maharashtra was the fastest growing state in India and has regained its top position.
He also said that Maharashtra was driving India’s growth story while Mumbai was transforming itself by maintaining its own identity. He also told the audience about integrated transport system consisting of metro, mono, trans-harbor link and coastal road. He also mentioned the efforts taken by his government through schemes like Jalyukta Shivar Abhiyaan to make Maharashtra drought-free.
The US and Canada tour was chalked out to meet important business heads in the two countries to ensure that memorandums of understandings that have been signed are pushed forward and projects speeded up, said state government officials.
