On the occasion of the 4th International Day of Yoga on June 21, the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in New York hosted several events, including an exhibition of yoga on June 18; laser projection of yoga postures on June 19; yoga session with yoga masters on June 20; Yoga on Mallakhamb; and “Conversations with Yoga Masters” on June 21, at the UN Headquarters in New York.
The “Conversations with Yoga Master” was moderated by Mitchell Rabin, founder of A Better World Foundation with Dr H R Nagendra, who came from India and is the Founder-Chancellor of S-VYASA Deemed University in Bengaluru; Eric Bowman (a peace activist and author); Lila Lolling (yoga teacher and founder of Deaf Yoga Foundation); Srinivasan (acharya, International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre); John Bennett (War veteran) and Madhusudan Balasubramanian (founder and Virtual Reality director at MYSTICS).
Also in attendance were Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, MP and National Vice President of the BJP; and Syed Akbaruddin, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN and several prominent members of the Indian American community. Separately, the Indian Consulate in New York hosted yoga day celebrations on Governor’s Island, NY, which was presided by Consul General Sandeep Chakravorty.
