Kalyan Ram's ISM Movie Review

Story:

Kalyan Ram is a vagabond who wants to become rich by marrying a rich person's daughter. He teases, harrases and finally gets the love of one such girl, Alia Khan (Aditya Aditi). However, her heart is heartbroken when she comes to know that it was all a trap by Kalyan Ram to get to his father Javed Bhai (Jagapathi Babu). Who is Kalyan Ram, what does he actually want and how his struggle ends is the basic story of the film.

Performances:

Kalyan Ram has clearly put in great effort. It is visible in the change in body but more than that even in acting he has tried his best to come with a unique and different body language than what we expect of him. While the efforts are appreciable, the actual act is not that free flowing to applaud. It clearly comes across as forced and one can make out that he is trying hard.

Aditi Arya is one of the worst female debuts in years. The actress playing a typical Puri Jagannadh heroine overdose her act. She single-handedly ruins many moments in the film with her over the top action.

Jagapathi Babu's character begins interestingly but it soon jumps into a comic space and finally ends like a joke. Posani Krishna Murali continues his typical act.

Ali is terrible in the brief appearance. Vennela Kishore is underutilized. Others are wasted.

Positives:

Court Room Scene

Basic Concept

Kalyan Ram's effort

Climax

Negatives:

Horrible screenplay

Songs

Analysis:

Puri Jagannadh, as usual, has a basic concept in place. He then creates a fluffy romance and heroic moments around it. First fo the film till the climax is just to showcase the "different" body language of hero. It has no real bearing on the actual story of the film.

The second half gets into the actual plot but the way it is executed leaves a lot to be desired. The 'hacking' sequences, for example, are a joke. The way the hero creates a team and how he goes about his work absolutely lacks any sort of logic. After all these logicless scenes, we finally get the courtroom sequences. As said earlier the director has a core idea and this comes out in the court sequence. This is where people feel the power of Puri Jagannadh. It is nowhere near his best or even average efforts but when compared to what all transpired before, this sequence clearly stands out. The climax again returns to the joke that the rest of the film is.

Music by Anup Rubens is alright. Background score is equally predictable. The cinematography is fine. Editing could have been better. Dialogues are pretty ordinary. Production values are good.

Bottom-line: Routine Puri-ISM

Rating: 2.5/5
