Dhan Kaur Sahota Sikh Chair established at University of California, Irvine

Photo: U.C. Irvine has established the Bibi Dhan Kaur Sahota Chair in Sikh Studies. Seen in the photo are Vice Chancellor Brian Harvey; Dean William Maurer; and Drs Amarjit Marwah and Harvinder Sahota. 

The University of California at Irvine has inaugurated the Bibi Dhan Kaur chair within the school to teach Sikh studies as a regular course.

The inauguration was attended by guests from England, Canada, Rochester New York, New York City, Houston, Las Vegas and Arizona.

The master of ceremony was Indian American Prof. Anneeth Hundle, Dhan Kaur Sahota Presidential Chair in Sikh Studies, which is housed in the Department of Social Sciences headed by Dean William Maurer.

U.C. Irvine presented a plaque to Drs. Harvinder and Asha Sahota in appreciation for their generous donation of $1.5 million which led to the chair being established. In 2015, Dr Sahota had donated more than a million dollars of his own money to the University of California at Irvine in honor of his mother, Bibi Dhan Kaur.
