Chay's Saahasam Swasaga Saagipo Movie Review

Story:

Naga Chaitanya (name unknown for the most part of the film) is a regular boy next door. He has a gang of friends like every boy has and problems related to such gangs. Fighting for love makes him feel like an adult during that time. He is introduced to Leela (Manjiima Mohan) through his sister. Luckily for him, she decides to stay in his house for few weeks and that’s when love blossoms. It is not yet communicated, though. One day Chaitanya decides to go on a bike trip and Leela comes along. What happens on this bike ride and how it changes their life is the story of the film.

Performances:

Naga Chaitanya took a leap as far as his acting is concerned from the film Ye Maya Chesave. We can now confidently say the actor has taken a leap again with Saahasam Swasaga Saagipo. Undoubtedly, this is his career best performance. He is completely at ease in the love scenes and improved tremendously in the dramatic portions as well, which was a big weakness earlier.

Manjiima Mohan looks good but as far as a Gautam Menon heroine is considered, she would find a place among the bottom. The magic is missing.

Baba Sehgal is terrific as a cop with a negative attitude and on a mission to execute orders of the higher official. Satish as a friend of the hero was fabulous. He was literally getting equal footing along with the hero and still never felt like sticking out.

Positives:

Naga Chaitanya

AR Rahman

Vellipomake song

Negatives:

Second half

Climax

Weak suspense reveal

Analysis:

Gautam Menon has by now set a very high standard as far as romantic films and cop movies are concerned. In Sahasam Swasaga Saagipo he mixes them in a way. The problem is the mix isn’t that convincing in the end.

The film begins in a cool way establishing the romance between hero and heroine in a typical Gautam Menon fashion. However, nothing much happens story voice which is incidentally acknowledged by the protagonist through the voice over. When we finally get into the story there is also a shift in tone from love to action. It looks fine initially but after a point, one gets a feeling of watching an entirely different film. As we move towards the climax, that feeling that one gets is that this is not the movie that we began watching. The end completely takes the cake with silly and predictable twists reveal. Overall, it is a disappointment looking at Gautam Menon’s past track record.

Technically the film is top notch with good music and background score by AR Rahman. It is the best thing in the film besides hero.  Similarly, the cinematography by Danny Macarthur and action by Kanal Kannan are good. Editing could have been better at places. Kona Venkat seems to have simply translated the Tamil dialogues into Telugu.

Bottom-line: Thrill-less Ride
