Will there be no more cuts from Censor board? Is it going to simply turn into a body that just rates movies according to content? If the Information & Broadcasting Minister approves the new changes recommended, all that would be a reality.
After severe issues were raised by many filmmakers regarding the controversial working nature of Censor board, the government appointed a committee headed by Shyam Benegal to looks into the issues and come up with a list of possible changes.
The Government-appointed committee has now come up with a new set of recommendations which have been approved by Censor board. There won’t be any cuts in movies and Censor board will only rate movies according to new categories created by the committee. All that one needs for these rules to come into effect is approval, followed by amendment of 1952 Cinematography Act.
